Can acupuncture help you?

"One of the advantages of acupuncture is that the incidence of adverse effects is substantially lower than that of many drugs or other accepted medical procedures used for the same conditions." National Institute of Health

Acupuncture is a natural method of aiding the relief of pain and improving physical functioning. It has been in practice for thousands of years. Many physicians are incorporating acupuncture into their work based on modern scientific explanations. The approach used by Dr. Rubin is the neuroanatomic approach and is based upon the fact that acupuncture stimulates the nervous system to release chemicals into the muscles, spinal cord and brain. Acupuncture also stimulates relaxation of muscles. It can therefore help break muscle spasms and treat muscle problems as well as nerve compression caused by muscles. This is done by inserting needles into and around acupuncture points. The needles used by Dr. Rubin are sterile, disposable and very thin to minimize discomfort. These treatments are often combined with other forms of pain management such as physical therapy and pharmacological treatment.

Dr. Rubin is a board certified physiatrist, a specialist in physical medicine and rehabilitation. He received his M.D. degree in 1988 from New York Medical College, Valhalla, NY. He then completed his residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center, and a fellowship in pain management at the State University of New York Health Science Center, Brooklyn. Dr. Rubin received certification in medical acupuncture after studying at U.C.L.A. and the American College of Acupuncture in New York.

Dr. Rubin is on staff at:

  • Boca Raton Community Hospital
